I thought I'd mention a more common predator - man! Please note that many fraud warnings need to be heeded, as well as all of the health concerns we're dealing with... Basically, don't click or answer if it sounds official, because no one is allowed to ask for your personal or financial information by phone or email, or even on a website that might look super legit.
The essence is that no one is allowed to ask you for :
- credit card information
- social insurance information.
- health card number
- any other kind of documents - passport, birth certificate, license, etc.
WARNING!!!
There are a lot of websites asking for your medical insurance or health card information, and saying that they will track your location to tell you who has COVID-19 in your neighborhood. This is FALSE!
Unless you have called a number that you trust, or an official entity that you need to reach, please note that...
Over the phone, no one can ask for your health card number, social insurance number, credit card, or other.
Do not respond to calls or emails or advertising requesting your health card number or other identification!
Don't trust cleaning / heating companies offering special COVID-19 filters. They do not exist.
Hydro/Electrical are not allowed to request payment and threaten to disconnect your power.
The C.D.C. or the W.H.O. will not contact you or offer you lists of infected people in your neighborhood.
Public Health will NOT ask for your health number to give you your virus test results.
No one is allowed to ask for your information offering a prescription in exchange.
Do not give anyone your health or financial info over phone or email.
The Red Cross will not contact you to donate a mask at your residence.
Do not trust emails that appear to have been sent by the government, or any other official looking email.
Do not consider opportunities or offers or be pushed into buying hot new stocks, or other investments.
Do not accept offers of financial aid or loans.
Door to Door household decontamination services are not allowed to operate.
Do not trust Private Companies offering test kits.
JUST : Do not click unknown email. Hang up if you are on the phone.
